Specialized Configuration for Cold Storage Environments Shelf Column Roll Forming Machine
Cold storage facilities are characterized by low temperatures and high humidity, causing standard shelving to rust easily. Many facility managers opt for galvanized steel for uprights due to the material's corrosion resistance. However, galvanized steel is harder than standard cold-rolled steel, placing higher demands on the production line. This shelf column roll forming machine specifically addresses the challenges of producing galvanized steel uprights and ensures stable processing while protecting the galvanized coating. The complete line features a 22 kW main forming unit and an 11 kW hydraulic system, achieving a forming speed exceeding 20 meters per minute.

Why cold storage racks need galvanized steel uprights
Regular cold rolled steel rusts quickly in low temperature and high humidity. After a month or two, the rust shows up.
Rust does two bad things. It weakens the upright so the rack holds less weight. It also contaminates food or goods stored nearby.
Galvanized steel works better for these reasons:
- The zinc coating blocks moisture and oxygen
- It does not rust even at minus 18 degrees Celsius
- Food logistics centers and cold storage warehouses all ask for galvanized uprights
If your clients operate cold storage or food logistics businesses, the ability to produce high-quality galvanized steel uprights is a prerequisite for securing orders. This shelf column rollforming machine processes galvanized steel with thicknesses ranging from 2.0 mm to 2.5 mm.

Five targeted design features of this shelf column machine
Galvanized steel is harder than cold rolled steel of the same thickness. A regular upright line often runs into three problems.
First, the rollers are not hard enough. After a few hundred meters they wear down, and the upright size starts to drift.
Second, the roller surface is not smooth enough. It scratches the zinc coating and leaves white marks. Customers reject those uprights.
Third, the forming frame is not rigid enough. When thick steel goes through, the whole frame shakes, and the upright section twists.
For galvanized uprights, you need a stronger machine. Here are five things we changed for galvanized steel and cold room conditions.
1.Roller material
We use Gcr12 bearing steel with quench heat treatment. Surface hardness reaches HRC58 to 62. Galvanized steel runs through these rollers without wearing them down quickly. The size stays stable for a long time.
2.Roller surface finish
We grind and polish the rollers to a very smooth finish. The surface is slick, so it will not scratch the zinc coating. The uprights come out looking bright.
3.Forming machine frame
The frame is cast steel, not welded. It has high rigidity. When we roll 2.5mm thick galvanized steel, the frame does not shake. The upright section comes out straight.
4.Motor power
The main motor has 22 kilowatts. The hydraulic system has 11 kilowatts. Power is plenty. The machine does not overload when forming hard steel.
5.Electrical control cabinet
We seal the cabinet against moisture. All terminals get anti rust oil. Even if you place the machine next to a cold room for a long time, moisture will not cause electrical failures.
These five designs specifically target galvanized steel and cold storage environments.

Quality of the finished uprights
This shelf column rollforming machine produces uprights that excel in the following four areas.
Surface: Smooth and scratch-free, with an intact galvanized coating and no white oxidation marks.
Dimensions: Uniform cross-sectional shape with no deviations caused by spring-back.
Hole Positioning: A servo driven feeding system guarantees consistent spacing between rows of holes so beam hooks slide in effortlessly during installation.
Length: The tolerance for a 3 meter length stays within plus or minus 1.5 mm which eliminates the need for repeated adjustments when welding base plates.
Many clients report that workers praise the uprights from this line as superior to imported products because of precise hole positioning and faster installation speeds. The line utilizes servo tracking cutting which allows for continuous operation without stopping the machine and maintains a forming speed of over 20 meters per minute.
